The present invention relates to a data concentration unit and an operating method thereof. The data concentration unit of the present invention comprises: a communications unit which comprises a power line communications module and a wireless communications module; and a control unit which controls the communications unit to receive a first power metering data in a wired way from a first watt-hour meter and a second power metering data in a wireless way from a second watt-hour meter. The control unit sequentially searches for wireless communications channels of a first transmission power and wireless communications channels of a second transmission power upon initially operation, classifies first communications candidate channels in ascending order of noise level among the wireless communications channels of the first transmission power, and selects at least one first wireless communications channel among the first communications candidate channels, thereby controlling a wireless communications with the second watt-hour meter. The present invention is able to provide an economical and efficient communications method. 본 발명은 데이터 집중 장치 및 이의 동작 방법에 관한 것이다. 이를 위한 본 발명의 데이터 집중 장치는 전력선 통신 모듈과 무선 통신 모듈을 포함하는 통신부; 및 제 1 전력량계로부터 유선으로 제 1 전력 검침 데이터를 수신하고, 제 2 전력량계로부터 무선으로 제 2 전력 검침 데이터를 수신하도록 상기 통신부를 제어하는 제어부를 포함하고, 제어부는 초기 기동시 제 1 송출 전력의 무선 통신 채널들과 제 2 송출 전력의 무선 통신 채널들을 순차적으로 검색하고, 제 1 송출 전력의 무선 통신 채널들 중 잡음 레벨이 낮은 순으로 제 1 통신 후보 채널들을 분류하며, 제 1 통신 후보 채널들 중 적어도 하나의 제 1 무선 통신 채널을 선택함으로써 제 2 전력량계와 무선 통신을 수행하도록 제어하는 것을 특징으로 한다.
