Summary: | The present invention relates to an internal combustion engine (1) having a control apparatus (C). An air-fuel mixture with a combustion air ratio (), which may be adjusted by the control apparatus, is burned within the internal combustion engine. The control apparatus (C) comprises: a power output control circuit which adjusts a lambda value () to control the actual output (P_g) of the internal combustion engine (1) to be a reference power output (P(^d_g)) of the internal combustion engine (1); and an NOx discharge control circuit controlled through a functional relation (2) to operate an actuator, which influences the air supply pressure as an alternative parameter for NOx discharge, by air supply pressure to set an air supply pressure reference value (p(^d_im)) for each reference power output (P(^d_g)) of the internal combustion engine. The present invention is to provide an internal combustion engine having a control apparatus, which is able to observe a target value in relation to NOx discharge, to prevent shortcomings, and to specifically have proper transient behavior.
