Abstract | The present invention relates to a liquid crystal aligning agent or photo-alignment, which comprises at least one polymer selected from the group consisting of polyamic acid, polyamic acid ester and polyimides obtained by imidization thereof, wherein at least one of the starting monomers of the polymer has a photo-isomerizable structure and the diamine as a starting material for the polymer comprises at least one compound represented by chemical formula (1). A liquid crystal display device having a liquid crystal alignment layer formed by using the liquid crystal aligning agent according to the present invention causes no degradation of display quality even when it is exposed to strong light for a long time. In chemical formula (1), n independently represents a C1-C6 alkylene.
