A kneader (1) for kneading a material to be kneaded (W) with kneading rotors (4, 5) in a kneading chamber (C), which is provided with: a chamber (2) that divides the kneading chamber (C) from the outside; a hard coating film (20) that covers an inner surface (2c) of the chamber (2), said surface (2c) facing the kneading chamber (C), and is formed of a material having wear resistance with respect to the material to be kneaded (W); and a protective member (21) that covers the edge portion (20a) of the hard coating film (20) on the inner surface (2c) of the chamber (2) and is formed of a material which is tougher than the material that constitutes the hard coating film (20).
