Summary:Provided are an apparatus and a method for correcting errors in data accessed from a memory device which includes a plurality of memory areas and is configured to memorize data symbols and error correction code (ECC) symbols associated to the same. A read operation is performed to include n data symbols and m ECC symbols associated to the same, and to output a plurality of read symbols, including at least one read symbols from each memory area, from the memory device. Thereafter, syndrome information is determined from the n data symbols and m ECC symbols associated to the same, and position of each reading symbol including errors is identified by performing error correction process using the syndrome information by an error correction circuit wherein each of the position identified reading symbol attempts to correct the errors.
