Summary:A video output device such as a television receiver is provided with a subtitle information extracting function for extracting subtitle information from a video signal, and in response to an operation of an operation button on a remote control terminal, subtitle information extracted by the subtitle information extracting means is transmitted to the remote control terminal by infrared communication that uses a transmitting means provided on the video output device and a receiving means provided on the remote control terminal side, and is displayed on a display screen of the remote control terminal. Thus, a video output device set that is capable of displaying subtitle information contained in a video signal on the display screen of the remote control terminal by a simple operation can be provided low in cost.
