Summary:PURPOSE: A serial hybrid propulsion system and a method of compensating dc stage voltage drop when accelerated in the are provided to compensate DC stage voltage drop and charge a main battery when a DC stage voltage drops in the initial acceleration of a vehicle. CONSTITUTION: A serial hybrid propulsion system(100) comprises an engine(101), an AC generator(104), a voltage converter(105), a rectifier(106), a main battery(107), a driving motor(111), a DC stage voltage detector(113) and a vehicle controller(114). The AC generator is connected to the engine. The voltage converter comprises a tap converter(105a) and an on-load tap changer(105b). The TAB converter converts a first AC voltage generated from the AC generator into a second AC voltage. The on-load tap changer regulates the voltage level provided to a DC stage. The rectifier rectifies the second AC voltage converted. The main battery is connected to the rectifier. The driving motor is driven with the power provided from the main battery. The DC stage voltage detector measures the DC stage voltage across the rectifier. The vehicle controller generates the signal for the voltage ratio regulating between the first AC voltage and the second AC voltage.
