Abstract The invention relates to a method and a device for dynamic compression in images or signal sequences which are represented by individual amplitude values. According to said method, input amplitude values EA of the images or signal sequences are subjected to a local, spatial amplitude averaging step and local, spatially averaged input amplitude values are produced (20), difference functional values are produced (30) from the differences between the input amplitude values EA and the local, spatially averaged input amplitude values , and output amplitude values AA of the images or sequences are produced (50, 60) from the difference functional values so produced. The invention is characterized by superimposing (40) additional difference values to the input amplitude values EA and the local, spatially averaged input amplitude values when the difference functional values are produced, said difference values being produced from the input amplitude values EA and a predetermined reference value GA. ® KIPO & WIPO 2009
