Abstract A method and a system for enhancing image quality are provided to estimate illumination components and reflexibility components from an input video component image, apply gamma modification to the input video component image, and apply a histogram model ring to an output video component image acquired by modified results, thereby suppressing a halo effect greatly and improving only the video component image of an input color image to remove a change of color. A method for enhancing image quality comprises the following steps of: estimating illumination components l(x,y) from an input image f(x,y)(1172); removing the estimated illumination components l^(x,y) from the input image f(x,y) to estimate reflexibility components r(x,y); modifying the dynamic range of the estimated illumination components l^(x,y), and modifying the contrast of the estimated reflexibility components r(x,y)(1174); and modifying and outputting the input image suitable for the range of a brightness value of an output device from the modification of the above first and second modification processes(1176,1180).
