Summary:A method for plasticizing a ceramic and refractory metal casting core is provided to protect a non-ceramic casting core element from excessive oxidation generated in executing a similar heating operation in the oxidizing atmosphere, by using the non-oxidizing atmosphere. A method(20) for plasticizing a ceramic and refractory metal casting core comprises the steps of: making compounds of a ceramic casting core element and a non-ceramic casting core element; heating the compounds up to the first temperature of the atmosphere of at least 316°C(600°F) in the oxidizing atmosphere(28); and heating the compounds up to the second temperature of the atmosphere of at least 817°C(1600°F) in the non-oxidizing atmosphere(42). In the forming step, the ceramic casting core element is formed on the non-ceramic casting core element and the non-ceramic casting core element is shaped from a refractory metal sheet.
