PURPOSE: A method and apparatus for controlling the opening and closing of a sub body in an automatic/manual foldable portable phone is provided to obtain efficiency in automatically opening and closing the sub body of a foldable portable phone and to properly and exactly control a sub body open/close location. CONSTITUTION: If a user pushes an automatic folder open/close key for the automatic open/close control of a sub body(500), a control part executes motor driving control so that the sub body can be opened or closed from a main body(502). Then the control part measures motor driving amperages, sensed by a current sensing part, as current code values at intervals of 30msec(504). The control part judges whether a measured current code value is larger than a preset current threshold(506). In case that the measured current code value is larger than the preset current threshold, the control part judges whether an open/close sensor has sensed a magnet(508). If the open/close sensor hasn't sensed the magnet, the control part increases motor driving repetition frequency by 1(510). However, if it is judged that the open/close sensor has sensed the magnet, the control part stops motor driving immediately(514). 본 발명은, 메인바디와, 상기 메인바디상에 개폐 가능하도록 설치되는 서브바디와, 상기 메인바디로부터 상기 서브바디 완전 개방 및 완전 닫힘을 적어도 하나를 감지하는 센서와, 내장모터를 포함하며 상기 서브바디를 개폐시키는 개폐장치를 구비하는 자동 및 수동 겸용 접이형 휴대용 무선단말기에서의 서브바디 개폐 제어방법에 있어서, 사용자의 서브바디 자동 개폐 제어에 따라 상기 내장모터를 이용한 상기 개폐장치의 서브바디 자동 개폐 동작이 있으면 상기 내장모터에 인가되는 모터구동 전류량을 측정하는 과정과, 상기 측정한 모터 구동전류량이 미리 설정된 전류 임계치보다 크고 상기 센서가 완전 개방 및 완전 닫힘중 하나를 감지하면 상기 내장모터 구동을 중지하는 과정으로 이루어진다.
