Summary: | PURPOSE: A method for producing a nitrosobenzene having a particular chemical structure from aromatic amine is provided by means of catalytic oxidation using hydrogen peroxide by an industrial simple method without addition of solvent. CONSTITUTION: The method for producing nitrosobenzene defined as the following formula (wherein R1 and R2 are same or different, exhibit any one selected from hydrogen, C1-C4 alkyl or C1-C4 alkoxy) is carried out by oxidizing hydrogen peroxide in the presence of a tungsten compound-based and/or a molybdenum compound-based oxidation catalyst at 5-25 deg.C without using an organic solvent in the ratio of (aromatic amine):(hydrogen peroxide):(oxidation catalyst) of 1:(2.0-5.0):(0.001-0.05). The aromatic amine is preferably aniline, o-, m- and p-toluidine or o-, m- and p-anisidine, more preferably, is aniline.
