Abstract The present invention relates to an apparatus and a method for diagnosing CAN communications. The method for diagnosing CAN communications comprises the steps of: entering a diagnostic mode for diagnosing CAN communications from a communications mode for transmitting/receiving information from an electronic control device; virtually configuring electronic control devices except for an electronic control device to be diagnosed when entered the diagnostic mode and performing diagnosis by analyzing message transmission/reception between virtual electronic control devices and the electronic control device based on a pre-stored CAN database; and outputting a signal to notify the occurrence of an error when the error occurrence is confirmed as a result of diagnosis.
