The present invention relates to a system for classifying the hierarchical features of a facial image and a method therefor. The system includes: a feature classifying unit (100) for classifying each portion of a plurality of facial images to be presented to a witness and dividing the classified portions into separate properties to generate feature classification information; a property giving unit (200) for normalizing the facial image included in the feature classification information and a standard image pre-stored in a database, computing the similarity between the facial image and standard images for a plurality of southern-type faces or northern-type faces pre-stored in a standard DB (210), and giving a property value of a standard image having the closest value as a property value of the facial image to generate feature property giving information; and a classification statistics unit (300) for drawing statistics for property values of the facial image included in the feature property giving information to generate facial feature statistics information. According to the present invention as described above, a classification system for faces is defined based on the features of northern-type faces and southern-type faces, a classifying technique and tool are provided to classify the feature of faces, the hierarchical features of a facial image is classified, property values are respectively given to classified features, and statistical values for property values are drawn to present samples, which are classified based on portions and properties of faces, to a witness, thereby inducing a more specific statement and providing a face type closest to a face of the suspect.
