Abstract PURPOSE: A power factor compensating system is provided to intermittently generate an opening/closing signal which is transmitted to a power factor compensating device, thereby increasing communication efficiency. CONSTITUTION: A voltage transformer(110) converts a voltage supplied to a load from a power supply device. A power converting unit(120) is connected to the primary side and the secondary side of the voltage transformer and receives a voltage and a current. A watt hour meter(140) receives the voltage and the current from the power converting unit. The watt hour meter detects power and a power factor using the received voltage and current. A power factor compensating device(180) controls the connection between the load and a power factor compensating device.
