Abstract PURPOSE:To aim at enhancing the aerodynamic characteristic and the far visibility by constituting a four lamp type retractable head lamp assembly with the use of lamps of types I and II, and by storing the type I lamps when the type II lamps are used while the optical axes of the type II lamps are directed obliquely upward when all lamps are used. CONSTITUTION:A four type retractable head lamp assembly is composed of lamps of types I and II in combination. The lamps of the types I and II are made to be retractable respectively. When low beams are alone used, the type II lamps are alone used so that the unused type I lamps are stored in a vehicle body. When main beams are used, all lamps are used while the optical axes of the type II lamps are corrected so as to increase the inclined angle thereof by an angle of 1 to 4 deg. from that during the use of the low beams. Thereby it is possible to aim at enhancing the aerodynamic characteristic of the head lamp assembly during the use of the low beams which are frequently used during running at the night time, and at ensuring the far visibility during the use of the main beam.
