Abstract PURPOSE:To prevent an ultra-high molecular acrylamide polymer from becoming insoluble and to improve the dissolution velocity thereof, by allowing acrylamide monomers alone or a monomer mixture of acrylamide monomers with another kind of monomers capable of copolymerizing with the former to polymerize in the presence of specific additives in an aqueous medium and grinding the polymer after heating to dry the hydrated polymer obtained. CONSTITUTION:Acrylamide monomers or a monomer mixture comprising at most 50mol.% acrylamide monomers and one or more kinds of monomers capable of copolymerizing with the former are polymerized in an aqueous medium in the presence of urea and polyethylene glycol of a solidifying point of 25 deg.C or below. The hydrated polymer obtained are ground after being heated and dried. The urea and polyethylene glycol used as the above additives may be respectively 0.2-10wt.% based on the monomers.
