PURPOSE:To provide a cosmetic giving excellent feeling to the skin and having transparent feeling, by compounding spherical powder of water-swelling clay mineral. CONSTITUTION:Preferably a water-swelling clay mineral is dispersed in an aqueous solvent and the dispersion is spray-dried to form spherical powder of water-swelling clay mineral having particle diameter of 2-20mum. The powder is compounded to a cosmetic base at an amount of 0.05-50wt%, 0.5-5wt% for emulsified or dispersed cosmetic and 0.1-30wt% for powdery or pressed powder cosmetic. The cosmetic produced by this method has extremely excellent smoothness and slipperiness and high transparency (low masking power) compared with conventional extender pigment used in cosmetics.
