PURPOSE:To facilitate the manufacture of the title device, by a method wherein a piezoelectric oscillating piece is formed so as to be a sheet type piece, having the configuration of a plane except a round circle, and electrodes are provided on both surfaces of the piece. CONSTITUTION:A piezoelectric oscillating piece 4 is formed so as to be a sheet type piece having the configuration of square plane. When AC field is impressed on electrodes 5, 6, the piezoelectric oscillating piece 4 is swollen into the direction of the thickness thereof as shown by dotted lines A whereby the profile thereof is contracted as shown by dotted lines C. On the other hand, when the piezoelectric oscillating piece 4 is contracted into the direction of the thickness thereof as shown by dotted lines B, the profile of the piece is expanded as shown by the dotted lines D. When a driven body 8, supporting a rotary shaft 7 at the side surface of the oscillating piece 4 is provided and an AC field is impressed on the electrodes 5, 6 of said oscillating piece 4, a travelling wave is generated on the side surface and the driven body 8 is rotated by the travelling wave.
