Abstract | PURPOSE:To reduce the load of a clutch and to improve a driving feeling, by a method wherein, based on deceleration of a vehicle, a residence time at a next speed when the deceleration is maintained is estimated, and when the residence time is below a shortmost time required for gear shift to a next gear shift speed, a gear is shifted down over one gear shift step. CONSTITUTION:Deceleration of a vehicle when a gear is reduced to the gear shift point of shift down again is detected by a rotation sensor 15, and when the deceleration is maintained, a time in which a gear is reduced to the shift gear point of shift down at a next speed step is calculated by a controller 20. A shortmost time in which gear shift to a next but one speed step is practicable after gear shift to a next speed step is started is compared with the calculated residence time, and when the residence time exceeds the shortmost time, a gear may be shifted down to a next gear shift step and when below the shortmost time, it may be shifted down to a gear shift step shifted down over one gear shift step. Thus, a gear may be shifted down to an optimum gear shift step, responding to a speed, at one time, the load of a clutch can be reduced, and a driving feeling can be also improved. |
