Abstract PURPOSE:To raise the efficiency of horizontal excavation as well as of usual excavation by a method in which a rotary shaft with screw blade is set in a casing, and sideward excavating cutter groups are provided at intervals for the tip end portion of the screw blade. CONSTITUTION:A rotary shaft 3 with a screw blade 31 is turned to penetrate its cutting edge 32 into the ground and a casing 2 is horizontally penetrated with the shaft 3 into the ground by the propulsion of the cutting edge 32. The excavated soil is sent into the casing 2 and carried and discharged from an outlet 22 on the base side into a caisson (a). The casing 2 and the shaft 3 are sideways moved by a moving arrangement mechanism 1, together with the rotary driving of the shaft 3. Furthermore, sideward excavation is made by the sideward excavating cutter group 6 of the blade 31 and the soil is discharged into the caisson (a).
