Abstract PURPOSE:To improve the productivity of a terminal control program and to reduce the load on a host computer by describing the terminal control program in virtual language. CONSTITUTION:A virtual language interpreter 21 and the terminal control program 22 in virtual language which are stored in a memory device 2 are downloaded in a terminal equipment 10 from the host computer 1 after the terminal equipment 10 is powered on. A mouse 12 is used on the terminal side to move cursors on the screen of a display device 13 and changes cursor shapes according to the position of the mouse. Further, when a user program AP is started, the host computer downloads a mouse control program suitable to the user program AP to the terminal equipment 10. The terminal control program 22 incorporates the mouse control program on the side of the terminal equipment 10 to perform cursor movement, moving-speed control, and shape switching on the screen of the display device 11 associatively with the mouse 12.
