Summary:PURPOSE:To three-dimensionally focus the photographing lens of a camera upon an object so as to photograph the object, by calculating the optimum focus moving quantity of the lens by using plural defocusing quantities obtained in accordance with plural subject distances. CONSTITUTION:The subject distance to a desired point of an object is measured with a distance measuring sensor 4 and the one or plural measured results are supplied to a distance measurement controlling circuit 5, where the defocusing quantities corresponding to the then position of a photographing lens 1 from the photographing plane on the optical axis is calculated. The calculated results of the one or plural defocusing quantities are supplied to a system controlling circuit 6 and the optimum focus moving quantity of the photographing lens 1 is calculated in accordance with the calculated results. The system controlling circuit 6 moves the photographing lens 1 to its focusing position in accordance with the calculated optimum focus moving quantity. Therefore, the photographing lens 1 can be focused upon the object three- dimensionally and the object can be photographed.
