PURPOSE:To provide a sterilization and disinfection agent obtained by adding a lower alcohol, etc., to a compound containing specific amount of dodecyldimethylbenzylammonium and exhibiting excellent sterilization and disinfection effect compared with the case of separate use of the component by synergistic effect. CONSTITUTION:Alkyldimethylbenylammonium or its salt containing >=80wt% dodecyldimethylbenzylammonium or its salt is mixed with a lower alcohol (especially preferably ethyl alcohol, etc.), a chelating agent (e.g. ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid sodium salt) and one or more kinds of ampholytic or nonionic surfactant (e.g. dodecylaminoethylglycine hydrochloride). The mixture is formed in the form of powder or liquid, etc., and a liquid agent containing the powder, etc., is used for the sterilization and disinfection of treatment object such as medical tools, apparatuses, plants, etc., by immersion, spraying, washing, etc. EFFECT:There is no lowering of disinfection effect even if the object contains an organic material.
