Abstract PURPOSE:To execute the recording of each different information by providing in advance an information mark on a recording medium, detecting this information mark, and dividing one piece of data track which can execute recording continuously, into plural recording areas. CONSTITUTION:Information marks 11a, 11b, 11c, 11d and 11e are used for write by dividing equally data tracks 5-1-5-n into four parts and provided on an optical card 1. Also, a photosensor 12 is provided in order to read out the marks 11a-11e and when the card 1 is placed on a shuttle 2 and moved the sensor 12 is fixed. Write and read-out of a recording area 8a, and the boundary of the areas 8a, 8b are determined by a signal by which the sensor 12 detects the mark 11a and a signal by which the sensor 12 detects the mark 11b, respectively. In this way, a signal for dividing each area 8a-8d is obtained from the same card 1, therefore, it is unnecessary to provide a dead space on a data track and the utilization efficiency of the data track is raised.
