PURPOSE:The titled fungicide that contains, as an active ingredient, a phosphonate derivative, thus showing large efficacy with a small dose as a slime inhibitor in cooling water system and water system in paper-making factories with high safety. CONSTITUTION:The objective fungicide contains, as an active ingredient, a phosphonate derivative of the formula (R1 is H, lower alkyl, lower alkenyl, benzyl; R2 is lower alkyl) such as 5-allyl-1-ethoxycarbonyl-1,2-dihydroquinoline-2- diethyl phosphonate. When used, it can be formulated into a variety of preparations, however, from the practical point of view, it is preferably used in the form of solution. When it is used in the form of a solution, it is diluted with an organic solvent such as dimethylformamide or diethylene glycol and diluted with water in the presence of a surface active agent. The amount of the fungicide for inhibition of slime formation is 1-1,000ppm, preferably 10-100ppm.
