Abstract PURPOSE:To measure a nodular corrosion susceptibility in a short time and to judge a suitability of beryllium for use as an atomic reactor inner material by leaving a beryllium test piece in a specified high temp. and high pressure vapor for more than specified time, then observing the surface of the test piece and measuring an increment of the quantity caused by a corrosion. CONSTITUTION:The beryllium test pieces 1 are hung by stainless wires 13 and supported in an autoclave 2, then the autoclave is deaerated and heated to 425- 515 deg.C. Deionized water 4 is poured into another autoclave 3, heated to maintain the pressure of steam 14 constant. Steam is sent into the autoclave 2 through a valve 6, and the inside thereof is maintained to 425-515 deg.C, 50-115kg/cm pressure for >=1hr. After a prescribed period of time, the cooled piece 1 is taken out to observe presence or absence of the nodular corrosion and the increment of the quantity due to the corrosion is measured. The sample which has not been corroded after 30hr under said temp. and pressure, doesn't generate any abnormality thereafter. In such a way, th feasibility for charging to an atomic reactor can be decided easily in a short time.
