Abstract PURPOSE:To prevent any stratification of the electrolyte of a lead storage battery by providing it with an electrolyte-stirring mechanism. CONSTITUTION:Electrolyte 3 is stirred by performing bubbling by sending air from a pipe 3. When the pressure of the upper internal space 4 of a cell 1 is reduced using a pipe 5, the internal pressure of the cell 1 is reduced and gas contained in a plate group and a small amount of gas generated during charging undergo expansion as compared to their volumes at ordinary pressure thereby migrating upward and being discharged. As a result, bubbling is caused, electrolyte is stirred and stratification of the electrolyte can be eliminated.
