Abstract PURPOSE:To input coordinates with high precision through simple operation by extracting contour coordinates of a near-by picture from near-by coordinate data outputted from a reader for the near-by coordinates and displaying them. CONSTITUTION:Contour coordinates (X,Y) extracted by the coordinate input device 31 are inputted to only the near-by picture reader 35 through a coordinate memory 32 and a switching circuit 38. This reader 35 reads a near-by picture at the coordinates (X,Y) inputted through the circuit 38 from picture data outputted from a video memory 39 and further outputs the data to a CPU37. The CPU37 receiving it operates an incorporated algorithm device 36 for contour extraction and differentiates the near-by picture data outputted from the reader 35, for example, on space basis to extract the contour coordinates (X',Y') of the near-by picture. The extracted contour coordinates (X',Y') are displayed on a display device 34 through a contour coordinate memory 33.
