Summary:PURPOSE:To improve heat responsive characteristic and to secure an insulating interval without enlarging the outer configuration, by using thermocouple elements, whose cross sections are flat. CONSTITUTION:Thermocouple elements 11 and 12, whose cross sections are of elliptic shapes having the same size, are arranged in parallel along the axial direction in a protecting pipe 13 made of stainless steel. The inside of the protecting pipe 13 is filled up with insulating powder 14 such as magnesia. The cross sections of the thermocouple elements 11 and 12 are of the elliptic shapes and the elements 11 and 12 have the large outer surface lengths, i.e., surface areas. Therefore, the response characteristic to heat is excellent, and insulation between the thermocouple elements 11 and 12 and between the elements and the outside can be sufficiently secured without enlarging the outer diameter of the protecting pipe 13.
