Summary:NEW MATERIAL:A compound shown by the formula I (R1 is 1-3C alkyl; R2- R4 are H, lower alkyl, halogen, or CF3; with the proviso that R1=R2=R3not equal to H). EXAMPLE:3-( 2,2-Dimethyl-4-fluoro-2,3-dihydrobenzofuran-7-yl )-5 -methoxy- 1, 3, 4- oxadiazolin-2-one. USE:An insecticide and acaricide. Having low toxicity, useful as an active ingredient for an insecticide or acaricide against insects belonging to the family Delphacidae, leafhopper, etc. in paddy fields, etc., insects such as diamondback moth, Mamestra brassicae Linne, grasshoppers, etc. damaging vegetables, fruits, wood, etc., acarids belonging to the family Tetranychiade, moths carrying germs, flies, cockroaches, acarids belonging to the family Ixodidae, fleas, noxious insects in stored grain, etc. PROCESS:A hydrazinocarboxylate derivative shown by the formula II is reacted with phosgene in an organic solvent to give a 2-chlorocarbonylhydrazinocarboxylate derivative shown by the formula III, which is subjected to ring formation in an organic solvent in the presence of a base at 20-100 deg.C, to give a compound shown by the formula I .
