Abstract PURPOSE:To continuously transfer data between optional bytes, by adding a byte transfer mode, in addition to a data transfer function provided on a data channel device, and designating an end position of a data transfer to an optional byte position in case of the byte transfer mode. CONSTITUTION:A data channel device 13 is provided with a transfer mode instruction FF which considers the contents of a data transfer quantity designating field to be the number of transfer words or the number of transfer bytes, and prescribes to transfer a data. In case when a word transfer mode has been designated by this FF, the contents of the transfer quantity designating field are considered to be the number of transfer words, and the data is transferred. On the other hand, in case when a byte transfer mode has been designated by this FF, the contents of the transfer quantity designating field are considered to be the number of transfer bytes, and the data is transferred.
