Summary: | PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To compensate the detection error of a preceding vehicle detecting device, which is to be an obstacle when the detecting device detects a preceding vehicle, and is caused by the attaching position of a laser beam transmitting- receiving section and the actual behavior of its own vehicle. SOLUTION: The preceding vehicle detecting device evaluates the relative position of a detected object B to its own vehicle A after compensating an error Δ , which occurs when a laser beam transmitting-receiving section is offset by ΔY from the representative point Q of a curve. Therefore, the detecting device can accurately detect whether or not the object B is in the same lane as that of its own vehicle. When vehicle-to-vehicle distance control is performed by utilizing the preceding vehicle detecting device, an appropriate vehicle-to-vehicle distance can be maintained between the preceding vehicle and its own vehicle. |
