Summary: | PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a metal-containing azoether pigment which can attain good recording sensitivity and light and dark stability, wherein each of the azo groups bonds a phenyl nucleus having an ether substituent ortho to the azo group and freed from a highly electron-attracting group to a substituted 3-hydroxypyridine nucleus. SOLUTION: There is provided an optical recording element composed of a transparent base and a recording layer and a light-reflecting layer laminated on the surface of the base, wherein the recording layer comprises a metal- containing azoether pigment in which each of the azo group bonds a phenyl nucleus having an ether substituent ortho to the azo group and freed from a highly electron-attracting group to a substituted 3-hydroxypyridine nucleus on and which is represented by the formula and a cyanine pigment. At the time of write, the element has a refractive index consisting of a real part of 1.8 or above and an imaginary part of below 0.3 to light at a selected wavelength of 400-660 nm. In the formulae, R1 is H or a 1-6C alkyl; R2 is H, a 1-6C alkyl, a halogen, or the like; R3 is H, a 1-10C alkyl, a 1-10C alkoxyl, or the like; and R4 is a 1-10C alkyl, benzyl, or the like. |
