Summary:PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain an ink jet printer without lowering a printing quality due to a color drift caused by a deviation of positions of a plurality of nozzles by expanding or contracting a recording head due to a temperature change. SOLUTION: A plurality of light shielding protrusions 17a, 17b are provided at a recording head 2. A photointerrupter 18 for detecting the protrusions 17a, 17b is provided. An expansion or contraction of the head 2 is sensed from a deviation of detected outputs of the protrusions 17a, 17b by the photointerrupter 18 in the case of scanning the head 2, thereby controlling an ink discharge timing.
