Abstract PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a combination of a cylinder and a piston ring combining a sliding characteristic and strength and easy to manufacture. SOLUTION: A piston ring 1 has a complex Cr plated film 2 on the outer peripheral surface. The compound Cr plated film 2 has silicon nitride grains dispersed in cracks formed in the film. The silicon nitride grains are 0.5-10 μm in average grain diameter, and the dispersed volume percentage is 4-11%. A cylinder liner 3 is formed of CV graphite cast iron. In the CV graphite cast iron, the modulation percentage of graphite is 25% or more, and the area percentage of ferrite is 10% or less.
