Abstract PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an inter-vehicle distance alarming device that does not give an unpleasant feeling to a driver during braking operation and that alarms to call a driver's attention when a braking operation is aimlessly performed. SOLUTION: A control unit 9 operates an alarm device 6 according to a prescribed judging time based on the output of a speed sensor 1 and a laser reader unit 2, changes the judging time so that the operation sensitivity of the alarm device may be lowered when a brake switch 4 detects that a brake unit 5 in an operating state, makes an alarm not to emit when a driver brakes with recognition of an inter-vehicle distance even when the space between driver' s own vehicle and a preceding vehicle becomes short and at the same time, makes an alarm emit when the driver aimlessly brakes so that the space between the vehicles becomes short and in this way, issues an accurate alarm that is suitable for a driver during a braking operation.
