Abstract PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To solve the problem of difficulty in production (extrusion molding) and to reduce a cost as the grooves of a tape slot type rod widely used as a small-fiber optical cable are spiral or S-Z shape. SOLUTION: The slot rod 22 having straight grooves 24 is formed. After coated fibers 16 are housed into the grooves 24 of the rod 22, the rod is fed into an extruder 36 while the rod is twisted to the S-Z form by a twisting device 34, by which the road is covered with a sheath 38. At this time, tension members 40 are fed simultaneously and are arranged into the sheath 38. The twisting of the cable is then prevented by the presence of the tension members 40 even if the core 32 is twisted to the S-Z form. The S-Z state is thus maintained. The production of the rod 22 is easy as the grooves 24 are straight. The rod 22 restores the straight shape and the coated fiber ribbons 16 come out of the grooves 24 of themselves when the sheath 38 is removed at the time of branching.
