Summary:PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a high-activity catalyst for producing a conjugated diene polymer having a controlled microstructure, esp. polybutadiene having a controlled 1,2-structure, by combining a specific titanium compd. with a specific compd. SOLUTION: This catalyst comprises a titanium compd. (A) represented by the formula: TiRX3 (wherein R is optionally substd. cyclopentadienyl, optionally substd. indenyl, or fluorenyl; and X is H, a halogen, a 1-20C hydrocarbon group, an alkoxy, amino, or amido) and an ionic compd. (B) comprising a noncoordinating anion and a cation and may further contain an org. compd. of group I to III element (C). The molar ratio of compd. A to compd. B is pref. (1:0.1)-(1:10), and that of compd. A to compd. C, pref. (1:0.1)-(1:1,000).
