Summary:PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a cartridge for a water purifying device which has the high capacity to purify the city water and to obviate the degradation in a flow rate by packing adsorbents for adsorbing iodine as filter media at a specific packing density into the cartridge. SOLUTION: A synthetic resin housing 3 of the cartridge is cylindrical and is provided with a raw water inflow port 5 in its lower part and a clean water discharge port 6 in its bottom. The cylindrical case 1 having the filter media is sealed and fixed by means of an O-ring 4 into the housing 3. The adsorbents having an iodine adsorption rate of >=1,800mg/g are packed as the filter media at the packing density of <=0.33g/ml into the housing. For example, the adsorbents 2a formed by packing iodine adsorptive granular active carbon contg. 85wt.% active carbon of 42 to 150 mesh grain sizes and porous hollow fiber membranes 2b are used as the filter media. Silver may be adhered to the granular active carbon. The propagation of bacteria by the stagnating water in the cartridge is adequately suppressed by the adhesion of the silver.
