Abstract PURPOSE: To accurately execute the simple, easy and efficient assembly of a small-sized optical module. CONSTITUTION: This device consists of an optical package supporting means 58 for position adjustably supporting an optical package, an optical fiber supporting means 62 for position adjustably supporting an optical fiber 41 having an optical element at its end face, a lens supporting means 59 for position adjustably supporting a lens arranged on the optical path where the optical package and the optical fiber 41 face each other, a second image pickup device 62 capable of picking up the image of at least the optical package by facing the optical package, a first image pickup device 65 capable of picking up the image of the optical fiber 41 together with the optical element at its end face by facing the optical fiber 41 and a moving base 63 for moving the position of the optical fiber 41 substitutively to the position of the optical package and the image pickup position of the first image pickup device 65.
