Abstract PURPOSE: To produce high-strength sintered ore without degrading productivity and yield by controlling the distribution of the high-water-of-crystallization ore in a sintered ore raw material packed bed and regulating the degree of homogeneous roasting determined by specific equation. CONSTITUTION: The distribution of the high-water-of-crystallization ore and/or solid fuel in the sintered ore raw material packed bed is controlled and the ore raw materials are so roasted that the degree of homogeneous roasting U determined by the equation U=(Tpeak-B3 )/H[U: the degree of homogeneous roasting ( deg.C/mm), Tpeak: the ultimate attainable temp. ( deg.C), B3 : a constant ( deg.C), H: the distance (mm) from the top end of the packed bed] attains the value within ±0.5 deg.C/mm at the time of producing the sintered ore by using the iron ore (high-water-of-crystallization ore) having a high content of the water of crystallization as the sintered ore raw material. As a result, the high- strength sintered are is obtained at a high yield and productivity, even if a large quantity of high-water-of-crystallization ore is used.
