Summary:PURPOSE: To easily select target KANJI(Chinese character) through easy operation even if the KANJI is neither grasped nor remembered accurately by providing a retrieval means and a selecting means which selects an optional candidate out of a group of KANJI candidates that are retrieved by the retrieval means and displayed as a guidance on a display screen. CONSTITUTION: A CPU 1 is a central processor which controls the whole operation of this document processor according to various programs stored in a ROM 2, a RAM 3, etc. To the CPU 1, a key input part 4, a CRT display device 5, a floppy disk drive 6, a mouse 7, and a printer 8 are connected as peripheral devices, and their input/output operations are controlled according to input/ output control programs. When the same constituent element as a target notation or a KANJI division pattern is optionally specified from the key input part 4, the CPU 1 retrieves single KANJI matching the specified constituent element or KANJI pattern and displays it as a candidate. Optional single KANJI is selected out of the candidate group as the target notation.
