Summary:PURPOSE: To prevent coated optical fibers of a ribbon from snaking owing to too much slacking and eliminate an accompanying increase in transmission loss by providing plural spaces in parallel on the same side about a neutral plane and storing the coated optical fibers of the ribbon in those spaces. CONSTITUTION: Two tension members 14 are provided side by side below the center axis 12 in an SP spacer 10 which is sectioned nearly circularly, and the neutral plane 16 of bending of the SP spacer 10 nearly passes their centers. Two spaces 18 in a rectangular groove shape which are parallel to the center axis 12 are provided above the neutral plane 16, and the coated optical fibers 21 of the ribbon are loosely stored in the respective spaces 18. In the case of this structure, the two tension members 14 are arranged side by side, so the cable does not bend laterally unless it is handled unreasonably. Therefore, there is little possibility that the coated optical fibers of the ribbon are bent edgewise. The section of the SP spacer 10 may be not a circle, but a long circle deformed vertically from the circle. Consequently, the spaces 18 can be increased in width.
