Abstract PURPOSE:To compute not only a measured value but also the reliability thereof by digitizing the reliability of the measured value by analyzing a signal. CONSTITUTION:The light from light emitting diodes 17, 18 are passed through an optical fiber to irradiate the interior of a blood vessel an the reflected light from the interior of the blood vessel is inputted and the intensity thereof is detected by a phototransistor 19. The min. value of the intensity of the reflected light detected within a specific time is computed and a measured value is computed on the basis of the min. value. Further, the min. value MIN within a specific time of the min. value is computed and a refrence intensity signal BL is determined on the basis of the min. value and a parameter for evaluating the reliability of the measured value is computed from the min. value and the reference intensity signal.
