Summary:PURPOSE:To remarkably reduce the wear of bricks around a tuyere caused by damage at the initial stage by regulating the height of each step in the height direction on the contact surfaces of the adjacent bricks with each other below the half length or shorter of the width of the brick, in a structure for thickening the brick thickness around the bottom blowing tuyere. CONSTITUTION:In the brick laying in a converter, the thickness of the bricks 2 around the bottom blowing tuyere 1 is thicker than the thickness of the bricks at the other parts. The steps L are arranged in order in the height direction on the contact surfaces of the adjacent bricks with each other around the tuyere 1. This step L is made to be in the range shown by L/D=0-0.5 (wherein, D: width of the brick). Further, the cross-sectional shape of the tuyere is formed with the steps or a inclining surface.
