Abstract PURPOSE:To provide a controller for an electric vehicle, which prevents the vehicle from backward movement at the time of starting on a slope and from awkward movements with an operation of an accelerator pedal at the time of traveling. CONSTITUTION:The controller for an electric vehicle comprises a fraction motor 3, a power converter 2 for supplying power, speed detecting means 6, accelerator and brake amount detecting means for detecting pedal depressed amounts of an accelerator and a brake, regenerative braking amount calculating means for calculating based on a detected output of the speed detecting means, switch means for inputting a speed to the brake amount detecting means when the accelerator amount is a predetermined value or less, and brake amount calculating means for calculating a brake amount based on the brake amount and the regenerative brake amount. Further, the controller comprises delay means for delaying at least an output of the braking amount calculating means, control amount calculating means for always calculating a control amount of the motor based on the accelerator amount and the brake amount, and a controller for controlling the converter based on the control amount and a detected output of the speed detecting means.
