Summary:PURPOSE:To quicken the rising even with a switch of minor rating by raising the output voltage of a switching element constituting a dimming device gradually in the active region, sensing the output current preset after a thyristor is ignited, and putting the thyristor in full continuity in the following half cycle. CONSTITUTION:In every half cycle, zero cross is sensed on the AC voltage given from an AC power supply 1, and by reference thereto a control part 9 generates an ignition pulse as a thyristor gate signal at a timing corresponding to the target phase angle in compliance with the diming level. Then the output voltage of a transistor 8 is raised in inclination at a timing corresponding to the target phase angle of a thyristor 3 and is impressed on an incandescent lamp 2. In this manner, a major half of the on division in every half cycle is shared by the thyristor 3 having a small On resistance, and heat emission is lessened to enable the thyristor to be configured small, and the transistor 8 is not allowed to generate noises in the linear motion division.
