CONSTITUTION:In this image recorder using a two-component developer, a forming means 51 forming a reference toner image for measuring the toner concn. on an image carrier, a detecting means 52 detecting the image density of the reference toner image, a setting means 53 setting the target density range of the reference toner image, a comparing means 54 comparing the detected reference toner image density with the target density range and a concn. adjusting means 55 selectively operating a toner concn. increasing means 56 and a toner concn. decreasing means 57, based on the result of the comparing means 54 and controlling the toner concn. so as to set the image density of the reference toner image in the target density range. When the image density is lower than the target density range, at the time of operating the concn. adjusting means 55, the toner concn. increasing means 56 is temporarily operated until the high image density exceeding the target density range is obtained and then, the toner concn. decreasing means 57 is operated.
