Summary:PURPOSE:To provide the connection structure of optical fibers which increases the performance of a connection between different mode optical fibers, i.e., a multi-mode optical fiber and a single-mode optical fiber. CONSTITUTION:When the multi-mode optical fiber 1 and single-mode optical fiber 2 are connected, the core 2a of the single-mode optical fiber 2 which has a smaller core diameter than the core 1a of the multi-mode optical fiber 1 is heated to thermally diffuse a core dopant and the mode field diameter of the single-mode optical fiber 2 is increased almost to the mode field diameter of the multi-mode optical fiber 1. Consequently, a light signal which is suppressed in power distribution variation of light intensity is made incident on the single-mode optical fiber 2 from the multi-mode optical fiber 1.
